Discussion with Lidmila Kábrtová

Writer Lidmila Kábrtová (1971) made her debut with the experimental prose Koho vypijou foxes (2013). In 2018, she published a collection of short stories, Places in the Dark, for which she won the main prize of the Czech Literary Fund Foundation. Her third book, Waiting for the Trigger, was published in 2021. It is a novel in eight stories about bad decisions, misunderstanding and hope. In addition, she is the author of numerous short stories in magazines and book collections.

Why does Lidmila like details so much and why does she consult experts for the information for her books? How did she become a writer? What books does she herself like to read? These and many other questions will be asked by historian and journalist Jan Halada.

Come and get an idea of what courses we offer. Try your hand at English, ornithology, film animation, graphology, get to know Wikipedia, volunteering or the Ukrainian programme at Elpida.

Discussion with Anna Šabatová

Anna Šabatová (b. 1951) is a signatory of Charter 77, co-founder of the Committee for the Protection of the Unjustly Prosecuted (VONS) and former Ombudsman (2014-2020). She has been an active citizen all her life, even at the age of 72. What motivates her to do so? What exactly was her path from dissident, through her academic career, to politics? Where does she find time for her three children and seven grandchildren in all this? How does she assess the development of Czech society after 1989? How does she perceive the current socio-political situation in Europe?

The columnist and moderator Táňa Zabloudilová will talk about this and more with Anna Šabatová.
