The best gifts are brought by Elpida
~ tips for the best (Christmas) gifts ~ Socks from grandma
We started the brand Socks from Grandma to support the elderly. Donated unwanted yarn goes to over 200 grandmothers who knit warm socks with it. By buying them you will not only support the knitters, but also other activities for the elderly at the Elpida Centre. Socks from your grandmother will warm not only your feet, but also your heart. On the paper cover you will find the name of the knitter who knitted your socks. You can read her story in the Elpida sock gallery. Choose and buy socks at www.ponozkyodbabicky.cz
OLD's COOL & AGING T-shirts
For those who want to wear the OLD's COOL philosophy on their chest, we have designed women's and men's t-shirts. OLD's COOL t-shirts were originally created for the female singers of the Elpida choir, but people loved them so much that we decided to cater to all enthusiasts. The T-shirts are from a limited edition that was created in collaboration with KundyCrew. This foursome of cynical girls stole their grandmothers' latest pastime and started embroidering. We couldn't keep the embroidery that was created especially for us. Having your old age embroidered has never been easier and, more importantly, more comfortable.
Vital Magazine
Vital, the magazine that Elpida publishes. We like to say that it brings generations together. Every three months we feature original topics and interviews with inspiring personalities. How do we connect the generations? By writing about old age - as it is and as it could be. And we write about it in a way that's entertaining even to people in their thirties. (Old age is the only way we know how to live to a ripe old age.) We simply enjoy Vital, and we enjoy the idea that people might give it their ownm parents, grandparents, or even a favorite neighbor who spends her days alone, as a Christmas present. It's easy to subscribe online and subscriptions can easily be given as a gift & a gift certificate can be printed out. After all, Vital is the best Christmas gift. That lasts all year long. And it doesn't get old. Plus, a year's subscription costs just £276 (which is 0.70 cents a day or maybe 6 flatwhites).
Course at the Elpida Centre
Have you bought your (grand)parents a mobile phone, but no longer have the energy to teach them how to use it? Would you like to give them the confidence not to be afraid to travel and help them to get along on the road? Give them a voucher for one of the courses organised by Elpida in its two Prague branches. The spectrum of activities is wider than wide - in addition to the popular computer and language courses, favourites include workshops such asYouTubing, a senior circus with the LaPutyka boys or the Life in the Information Age series, which helps seniors navigate the media world. Vouchers can be bought online.
If you like the Elpida organisation, you can support it with even a small donation. For every 50 CZK you give, one person will be able to attend one of the courses. For 100 CZK you will allow one senior citizen who is in a difficult life situation to call the Senior Citizens' Helpline. Your 400 CZK will bring joy to people in a nursing home for a whole year through Vital magazine. THANK YOU!
Elpida means hope in Greek. But it is also the name of an organization that helps seniors become a confident and respected part of society. In the spirit of the Old's Cool motto, Elpida is changing the way we look at old age - running the Elpida Educational and Cultural Centre for seniors fromPrague and the Senior Crisis Line, founded the brand Socks from Grandma, publishes the magazine VITAL, and organises the intergenerational Old's Cool festival. In short, she is trying to make Czech seniors lead a full & happy life.
